Respected peace-loving American dignitaries, ladies and gentlemen, I extend my warm greetings and gratitude to all of you for coming here this evening. You are now joining more than seventy million people worldwide, including seven million in Korea, and seven hundred million Blessed couples in the heavenly spirit world who have participated in these gatherings for peace.

We are living in a truly historic and providential moment. This is a time of great heavenly fortune, the time when we will build the ideal world of peace that heaven and earth have longed to see for six thousand years. It is time to build the kingdom of God in heaven and on earth.

Throughout providential history, God raised up various religions to accord with different historical periods and regional cultures. Working among these diverse traditions, men and women of faith have made continuous efforts to achieve a world of peace.

Yet even today, human beings groan in travail, because we are still unable to free ourselves from all manner of unethical and immoral behavior. People everywhere are dismayed by the truth that a seemingly unstoppable tide of immorality is now rushing in with the power of a surging storm, threatening to sweep us all away in its turbulent waves. This is the tragic portrait of modern human beings.

Yet this does not mean there is never to be any hope. My husband, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, and I have dedicated our lives to conveying the Word of God. Our prophetic messages have been proven to be a true witness that transcends the earthly limitations of this age and our environment.

Dear precious and beloved brothers and sisters of Japan! Minasan Konnichiwa!

What a breathtaking inspiration it is to be here today. It is truly an honor to stand on this stage in the presence of 12,000 providential champions who absolutely attend our Heavenly Parent and True Parents.

We have gathered here on this glorious “Mother’s Day” to honor our True Parents, to pay tribute to the true filial heart of the Japanese movement, and to celebrate the first “Mother’s Day Hyojeong Culture Festival in Tokyo.”

It is no coincidence that we celebrate this day in Tokyo, Japan with our eminent True Mother on the official Mother’s day holiday.

Our mother nation of Japan has been our movement’s true model of “hyojeong” attendance, its beloved sons and daughters living for the sake of the world!

There is no doubt in my mind that we are here with Heavenly Parent’s and True Parents’ absolute blessing, admiration, love and grace.

What makes this day so very memorable and inspiring is the fact that the greatest mother of all time, our one and only beloved True Mother, has come to Japan to be one with our Japanese family. Aju?

True Mother comes here to share her loving heart and to convey encouragement, absolute faith, confidence, and hope that our mother nation of Japan shall be victorious in fulfilling Vision 2020.

We are truly blessed to be here today in the Mother nation, celebrating this “Mother’s Day”, as one united family under God with our beloved gorgeous True Mother! Yes! Aju?

We have learned from our True Parents that God, our Heavenly Parent, has both masculine and feminine characteristics. While we refer to God as Heavenly Parent, to indicate a single, unified entity, we understand that at the very source and origin of our universe there is also the heavenly mother’s heart.

We know that the substantial manifestation or incarnation of the Heavenly Parent cannot be achieved fully through a single masculine or feminine being.

Heavenly Parent and the world have been waiting for the victory of True Parents. Without True Parents there would be no completion of the 4 position foundation. True Children and Blessed Central Families would be an impossible dream. Without True Parents there would be no salvation, grace or blessing and we would all still be in darkness.

We must carry the absolute heart of “hyojeong”, a true filial heart, and live in complete gratitude to True Parents with absolute love, faith and attendance. We must be the proud sons and daughters of our Heavenly Parent and True Parents and bring this world to the light as One Family under God.

For 92 years this world was so deeply and profoundly blessed to have our True Father, prepared by heaven as the only begotten son and called by Jesus, walking this earth, traveling this world, and unceasingly speaking the complete truth of heaven.

And, for the past 74 years this world has been equally and most profoundly blessed by the presence of our True Mother, prepared by heaven as the only begotten daughter, and as the long awaited bride that completes the position of True Parents, standing in the position that had been lost at the time of the Fall.

Humankind has existed from the beginning without its True Mother. We have lived in utter darkness and suffering for millennia. If you reflect on the history of our world we observe that there has never been a completed, center point that harmonized all life and creation. True Parents—True Father and True Mother—are that absolute and eternal center point.

For 52 years on this earth, True Mother served as the True Wife and the True Love Partner to her Husband. Over a period of 20 years, she gave birth to 14 beautiful and precious true children, establishing the True Family here on earth.

Together, as one absolute perfected couple, our True Parents have fulfilled and completed everything so that humanity could achieve total liberation.

Since True Father’s passing four and a half years ago, we have witnessed the emergence of our True Mother in ways that exceeded all our expectations and dreams.

We are truly blessed to have our True Mother with us. From the time of the Holy Wedding in 1960, she worked side by side with our True Father every single day.

Is there anyone who can claim to know True Father more than True Mother? Can any child fathom the full essence and depth of the parent?

Only True Mother knows the deepest heart and soul, the tears, the longings, the hopes and dreams, of our True Father and our Heavenly Parent.

Indeed, it is that absolute complete oneness with Heavenly Parent and True Father, day in and day out, that inspires and guides our True Mother as she leads our movement forward to victory.

On this day, I am sure that True Father is filled with infinite happiness and comfort to see our True Mother here in the Mother Nation of Japan.

Although True Parents often pushed our Japanese brothers and sisters time and time again to fulfill incredible goals, True Parents have the greatest love, respect and gratitude for our Japanese members. The mother nation, like our True Mother, gave everything to complete the providence.

By gracing this event today with her presence, True Mother is giving us the ultimate divine blessing and sacred honor.

This day will be recorded eternally as a turning point in the providence centered on Japan, a day of greatest blessing for the mother nation as you move forward to achieve victory in fulfilling Vision 2020 and establishing the nation of Cheon Il Guk!

I am confident that Japan can do it! Are you confident? Can you do it? Yes? Aju!

Brothers and sisters, we have such a precious opportunity on this day, to hear directly from our True Mother. We have come together on this day as one family under God, centered on our beloved True Father in heaven and our beloved True Mother in Japan.

This is the day of glory, the day of cosmic spring, a day of infinite blessing and eternal joy.

Now, the moment we have been waiting for is to welcome our beloved True Mother onstage. We will have a ceremony to offer flowers of appreciation.

Let us rise together and let us give our deepest, most powerful and most loving welcome to our beloved True Mother.

Opening the Era of a United Korea through True Love Living for the Sake of Others

At KINTEX exhibition center in Goyang City, in an event hall the size of a huge aircraft hangar, True Mother today encouraged a crowd of 10,000 members, ambassadors of peace and local leaders to follow the way of love and peace building. The event was one of four or so events to be held throughout Korea in the ensuing weeks, on the same theme. They will be followed up with smaller events geared to helping leaders in Korean society strategize for the path ahead for their country.

After Korean Family Federation president Rev. Yu Kyeong-eok, who was MC for the event, welcomed everyone warmly, he spoke on some of the issues facing Korea – including the threat of North Korean military action and the political turmoil of recent months – and introduced some of the prominent guests in attendance (which included the Mayor of Guri City). The event featured speeches by two Korean lawmakers (and a message from a third).

The first among these, Mr. Jo Myeong-cheol, had previously taught in Kim Il Sung University in Pyongyang before defecting to the south. He had been present when Father was in North Korea and when he declared that North Korean Juchephilosophy was never going to lead to unity. Mr. Jo testified based on his first-hand experience that no one else had ever dared to say such a thing in a public forum in North Korea. He admired Father for risking his life to say those words.

The second lawmaker, Mr. Kim Seong-dong, recounted how Father had worked tirelessly for South Korea’s security, and he looked back to the Rally for Korea Freedom in Yoido, Seoul, in June 1975. He also mentioned the landmark visits True Parents made to meet Mikhail Gorbachev in Moscow in 1990 and to meet Kim Il Sung in Pyongyang the following year. He exhorted all present to continue the work for peace in Korea, and beyond, for the peace of the world.

After a brief video presentation entitled “True love for others is the path to harmony and unity,” highlighting True Parents’ lifelong for peace, True Mother was welcomed to the podium.

Mother’s spoke for about 25 minutes on Heaven’s providence and the mission of Korea. Here is a summary of some of the points Mother made (taken from the English interpretation; please see a more official translation at a later date):

God gave us a portion of responsibility but Adam and Eve, through self-centeredness, made the mistake of the Fall. Since then God has walked the lonely path to restore fallen human beings. Along its course, those who practiced virtue were raised up to lead the others.

God raised up Israel as a chosen nation over 4000 biblical years. People had been yearning for the Messiah; then Jesus was sent by God. Jesus, as the only begotten son, should have met the only begotten daughter and he and his bride should have become the True Parents of humanity. But this did not work out. Mother explained that the Christianity was placed in the position to restore this. It took 300 years for Christianity to make a beginning. Christianity then spread across the world.

Yet Christianity does not understand its mission entirely. The essence of Jesus is true love. Giving, giving again, and forgetting you have given. But looking at Christian civilization, they have not all kept an attitude of giving. All the nations in Europe have technology and knowledge, and are economically strong. But internally, they had not managed to learn to live for the sake of others and thus they have not prepared for Jesus’ second coming.

This mission transferred to the Christians in Korea, but they also have not succeeded. Christians in Korea have not understood God’s providence sufficiently. You need to understand that with True Parents’ Holy Wedding in 1960, the Messiah was here. If people had recognized this in 1960 it would have been easier. There are many more people now, so it is a bigger job. But if people unite with True Parents, there will be a future for humanity.

In 2016 the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace was launched in many important places, and has drawn many members of parliament in many countries.

In February, 700 congressmen came Korea for the conference. I told them they should be messiahs to the people in their countries. We began IAPP in 120 nations.

How painful and difficult a path our Heavenly Parent has endured. In the Bible it is described as 6,000 years, but human history is much longer than that.

Your wish is the reunification of Korea, to live in a nation of unity and prosperity. But this wish cannot be realized through political or ideological means alone. You need True Parents to solve this problem.

Korea has been blessed as God’s homeland. Therefore, all of you must show through your actions that this really is the nation where God and True Parents can dwell. You must be able to stand proud before the entire world. You must be the light of Asia.

This is the era of the Pacific-Rim Civilization. From here, peace will expand throughout the world. The Pacific Rim Era is one of living for the sake of others and centering on True Parents.

Before Heavenly Parent, and with a heart of filial attendance, let us offer glory and happiness. Until we have accomplished this, let us march forward!

The program’s final feature was the affirmation by all of the following points:

1. To realize peace in Korea we will work actively.
2. We will raise leaders for the future
3. We will work to realize a community of true love, and culture of harmony
4. We will practice a life of true love to make peace.
5. We will set in motion a movement to restore values.

Three resounding cheers of Eok-mansei brought the event to a cheery conclusion, and Mother departed the stage accompanied by members of the True Family.

Moving from Personal Salvation to Family Salvation

Salvation through the Holy Marriage Blessing

All people are fallen due to original sin, and it is True Parents' fundamental mission to save them. The centerpiece of this mission is the providence of the marriage Blessing, which eradicates original sin and fallen lineage. The marriage Blessing is the ceremony through which the evil lineage stained by Satan, is converted to the lineage of goodness rooted in God. It is the important ceremony that restores the order of love with God at the center, and eradicates the disordered love engendered by Satan through the Fall. The providence of the marriage Blessing, under the auspices of the True Parents, is the starting point for realizing the ideal of one family under God.

The reparation to receive the Blessing of marriage is perhaps best done by using the tools Jesus gave us to liberate ourselves from Satan. Jesus taught us The 3 Great Human Virtues for the fallen world to use to liberate us from Satan.

“Love, Forgive & Repent"

Jesus' teachings placed us perfectly at the foot of The Tree of Life. He opened the door to the 1st blessing of individual perfection.

This lifestyle should be pursued by both the man and woman preparing to be blessed in marriage.

It is best if blessing candidates be admired by all people as people of good character. Additionally, they must fulfill basic requirements, such as maintaining purity, receiving education, testifying, fasting and offering devotions. True Parents have also said that a couple should commit to one another only after obtaining parental consent.

Originally, if Adam and Eve had reached the perfection stage of the 1st Blessing in the Garden of Eden, they would have received the marriage Blessing from God. However, due to the Fall, the marriage Blessing centered on God was not realized. Therefore, God had to work through 4,000 years of history to raise up the Israelites, to whom He sent the Messiah. He intended to give the marriage Blessing at the time of Jesus. Unfortunately we had to wait until the present day for the “Marriage of the Lamb”

Rev Sun Myung Moon, as a young 15 year old praying on a Korean mountain-top on Easter morning in 1935, was asked by Jesus, to take on the mission of bringing God's 2nd Blessing, the Blessing of Marriage, to humankind. After a long difficult road, he and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon were victorious in assuming the mantle as the True Parents of Humankind.

In 1960 True Parents opened the new chapter in the history of human salvation through the marriage Blessing. The marriage Blessing is of great significance, because it replaces Satan's lineage with God's, and recovers the order of love rooted in God. The Blessing benefits society by offering the opportunity for people to enter into cross-cultural marriages, which contribute to the realization of one world under God by breaking down barriers between nations, races and religions.

The marriage Blessing ceremonies began with 3 couples on April 16,1960. Then the 36 Couples, 72 Couples, 124 Couples and 430 Couples were blessed on the tribal and national levels. Through the next several ceremonies, including the Blessings of 777 Couples, 1,800 Couples, 2,075 Couples and 6,000 Couples, the holy marriage Blessing became an international event. At the 6,500 Couples Blessing, largely between Korean and Japanese spouses, for the first time the majority of the couples were international. From the time of the 30,000 Couples Blessing, the Blessing expanded to a global scale, with the inclusion of simultaneous international satellite Blessing ceremonies.

Hand in hand with the marriage Blessing, True Parents carried out the pure love movement and the true family movement on an extensive scale. These seek to offer fundamental solutions to the global problems of youth immorality and family breakdown. The ideal world of creation can be realized only when the pure love tradition sets the standard for the order of love among young people and then expands to transcend religion, nation and race. In other words, God's Will can be realized when the marriage Blessing expands, gains popularity and takes root.

True Parents have made it clear that blessed families need to be concerned about and live for their tribe, their people, their nation and the world before their own family. When a blessed husband and wife honor each other as the person who stands in the position of God, they set the example for those around them. As such, blessed families are to take the lead in the restoration of their tribe, their nation, the world, and all of heaven and earth. They need to live together experiencing the love of brothers and sisters. They are to establish the tradition of community life through which all people can live together and love one another, transcendent of nation, race and religion.

True Parents said that through the marriage Blessing, we need to establish the traditions of true husband and wife, true parents, true children and true siblings, with true love at the center. They particularly emphasized that true love incorporates the rights of inheritance, equal status and shared participation. So the ideal of the kingdom of heaven can be realized when people inherit the tradition of the true love of God.

The Search for God's Daughter

The reason the Bible is the greatest among the scriptures of the many religions is that it introduces God as the Father, the Parent of humankind. This is the foundation of the Christian faith. Next, it refers to Jesus as God's only begotten Son. The phrase "God's only begotten Son" means that Jesus is the first person who could receive the fullness of God's love.

Another point is that the Bible introduces the concept of the Bride. Jesus, God's only begotten Son, came as the Bridegroom. Hence, he needs his Bride. Since there is the Bridegroom, there also must be the Bride. The Bridegroom and Bride are a man and a woman. On the day of their wedding banquet, God can finally appear holding the flag of love. God hoped to see such a banquet in the Garden of Eden. This hope was shattered; hence, in the Last Days this wedding banquet must be held on earth. (135-125, 1985/10/04)

Jesus said, "I am the Son of God," "God is my Father," and "I am the only begotten Son." The only begotten Son is the Prince of Heaven who can receive God's first love. Among God's sons, he is the only one who can receive God's first love and receive it in its fullness. Next, there must be the only begotten Daughter. The Bridegroom is the only begotten Son; the Bride is the only begotten Daughter.
They must wed; this is the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. This means that when the Lord comes, he will have his wedding banquet and then raise a family. This is what God has desired ever since the creation of Adam and Eve. God's hope is for the only begotten Son and the only begotten Daughter to build a God centered family, a family in which He can manifest His love in a real way. (160-272, 1969/05/17)

God has been looking for the persons who can represent Adam and Eve whom God had lost. The Bible calls Jesus the Second Adam. It calls Adam the tree of life. Thus, Jesus is the one who came in place of the tree of life that had been lost. However, he could not complete his original mission because he was not able to welcome the day of his wedding, when both God and the Son could rejoice. That is why he left earth with the promise that he will return.
The day will arrive when God and Jesus rejoice together. The day will come when they can openly express their heart filled with 6,000 years of bitter pain and sorrow. The day will come when the coming Lord can establish the bond of lineage linking God to His sons and daughters.

Suppose that when Jesus came to earth as God's only begotten Son, he had not died on the cross. Since he was God's only begotten Son, God surely would have sent His only begotten Daughter to him. God has searched for 2,000 years to find the Bride. Jesus emerged as the true Son, but there is no mention of the true Daughter anywhere in the Bible. That is why God's Will was not realized.
The purpose of the 2,000-year history of Christianity has therefore been to find God's Daughter. The Holy Spirit came, but it represents this daughter of God only in spirit. God's bitter sorrow over this matter will be dissolved on the day that the Marriage Supper of the Lamb takes place. (007-303, 1959/10/11)

Religion up to now has been seeking for the one ideal man and the one ideal woman. Through religion, God has been looking for the one man and the one woman of whom He could say, "You are my total love." The Bridegroom and the Bride in Christianity refer to God's Will to seek throughout the world for the only begotten Son and the only begotten Daughter who can receive God's love in its fullness. When He finds that perfected man and perfected woman, God brings them together and holds a wedding banquet; from that point a new world can unfold. That is why on his return the Lord must find the Bride and hold the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. (041-027, 1971/02/12)

​​ An Incomparable Inner Beauty

My wife has such a tremendous heart of love and care that she even gave her wedding ring to someone in need. When she sees someone in need of clothes, she buys that person clothes. When she comes across someone hungry, she buys the person a meal. There have been many times when we have received presents from others that she would give away to someone else without even opening them. Once we were touring the Netherlands and had a chance to visit a factory that processed diamonds. Wanting to express my heart of regret toward my wife for all her sacrifices, I bought her a diamond ring. I didn’t have much money, so I couldn’t buy her a large one. I picked out one I liked and presented it to her. Later, she even gave away that ring. When I saw the ring wasn’t on her finger, I asked her, “Where did the ring go?”

She answered, “You know by now I can’t keep something like that when someone has a greater need.”

Once I saw her pulling out a large wrapping cloth, and she was working quietly to pack some clothes. “What are you going to do with those clothes?” I asked her.

“I have a use for them,” she said.

She filled several wrapping cloths with clothes without telling me what she planned to do with them. When she was finished, she told me she was getting ready to send the clothes to our missionaries working in foreign countries.

“This one’s for Mongolia, this one’s for Africa, and this one’s for Paraguay,” she said.

She had a slightly self-conscious smile that made her look so sweet when she told me. Still today, she takes it upon herself to look after our overseas missionaries.

My wife established the International Relief and Friendship Foundation in 1979. It has done service projects in numerous countries, such as Zaire, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. The foundation gives food to impoverished children, medicine to those who are sick, and clothing to those in need. In Korea, she created the Aewon charity organization in 1994. Its activities include managing a canteen serving free food to the poor and supporting low-wage earners, the handicapped, children taking care of families in place of parents, and others. It also provides aid to the North Korean people. My wife has also been active in women’s organizations for some time. The Women’s Federation for World Peace, which she established in 1992, has branches in some eighty countries and is in general consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations as a nongovernmental organization.

Throughout history, women have been persecuted, but I predict this will change. The coming world will be one of reconciliation and peace based on women’s maternal character, love, and sociability. The time is coming when the power of women will save the world.

It would seem that my wife would be devastated each time she faced such difficult situations, but she always remained unshaken. Even in the most difficult and unbearable circumstances, my wife never lost her serene smile. She always crossed over life’s most difficult peaks successfully. When church members ask my wife’s advice on raising their own children, she tells them: “Be patient and wait. The period when children wander is only temporary. No matter what they do, embrace them, love them, and wait for them. Children will always return to the love of their parents.”

I have never raised my voice toward my wife. This is not because of my character, but because my wife has never given me cause to do so. Throughout our life together, she has labored to care for me with complete, loving devotion. She is even the one to care for my hair. So this great saint of world affairs is also the best barber in the world. Now that I am old I make many new demands on her, and she always responds. If I ask her to cut my toenails, she will do it cheerfully. My toenails are mine, but I can’t see them very well. She sees them perfectly well, though. It’s a strange thing. The older I become, the more precious my wife is to me.

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, we have ushered in the New Year and with it, the third year of Cheon Il Guk. Heaven has blessed this day with a shower of white snow, as if to say, ‘congratulations’. I take this to be Heaven’s way of telling us to live in pure and unblemished, just like the white snow. Beloved Unificationist families, in the third year of Cheon Il Guk, the year of the blue sheep, what resolutions have you made? Shouldn’t our way of life advance forward in the New Year compared to the previous year? Don’t you think so? On this day, I offer my thanks and congratulations to heaven while feeling the unending grace and love of God. Since True Father’s Seonghwa, I have been endeavoring to offer and dedicate the three great scriptures to Heaven. As of today, the last of the three books, the Cham Bumo Gyeong (True Parents’ Life Course), will find its place among these Holy Scriptures.
I don’t know if you welcome this day with deep gratitude, but, I can tell you that Heaven has waited for this day for six-thousand years. Heaven’s providential course—the providential history of restoration through indemnity—which has guided human history, is, in a word, tragic. Our Heavenly Parent went through many hardships to find one central point at which to wait. Here, He longed for the advancement of the providence. Yet, because of the repeated mistakes made by humankind, Heaven had to wait countless years to find this point.. However, in 1960, a new morning dawned; the True Parents, the first and last of their kind to appear in human history, finally began their course of guiding the providential history. Heaven gave humankind many religions in order to enlighten humankind who had fallen into ignorance after the Human Fall. However, there were limitations to this way of enlightenment. Ignorance of the root of the fall limited religions from resolving the difficult problems of the world.
God went through many pains in order to raise the people of Israel through whom He tried to complete the providence of restoration through indemnity. God sent His only begotten son; however, this son never received the chance to shine. Our Heavenly Parent, God, went through non-stop excruciating pain; His heart was constantly being torn into pieces. God sent His only begotten son to the people whom He raised for four-thousand years. This position remained. Jesus promised to return. That was the start of the two-thousand year providential history of Christianity. Then, must the returning lord come on the clouds? Ignorant people even after the enlightenment of the twentieth century believed that the Lord would return on the clouds. They were unable to conceive of a messiah who would come in the flesh to carry out the dispensation of salvation. That has been the fifty-year history of the Unification Movement. I said that today was a good day so I won’t want to speak of hardships. I will say, we must reveal the truth.
Looking at the world today, have you thought, who is the owner of this world? There is no owner. Is it the democratic world? Is it the communist world? Are the prosperous nations the owners of this world? No. The true owner must appear. The true owner is the one who perfects God’s providential history. That person is the true parent. You know this, right? In the Book of Romans, there is a parable about the wild olive tree and true olive tree. When people read this passage, they do not understand the underlying concept God is trying to express in these verses. A wild olive tree cannot become a true olive tree on its own. When the owner comes it can then engraft itself to the owner, the true olive tree. However, this process of engrafting is not easy. The true olive tree has a responsibility; its roots must be planted deeply so that it can survive in any difficult circumstances. What does this mean? After enduring many difficulties, you were able to receive the Marriage Blessing from True Parents. Then, as a blessed family, what should you do? The Marriage Blessing will hold no meaning if you allow your blessing to extend only to your family, while living in this age of True Parents. , Do you understand? Blessed families must fulfill their responsibility. The Marriage Blessing should not remain within or end up as a blessing that extends only to your family. You must reveal to your neighbors, your tribe, and your nation that True Parents are the true owners. That is the only way for you to go today if you want to receive the crown of glory, the only way to prove that you lived in this era with True Parents. Please engrave this in your hearts.
All the blessed families gathered here today and also those participating via internet throughout the world should proclaim True Parents to all four corners of the world, and fulfill their responsibilities as tribal messiahs practicing true love according to True Parents’ teachings. Humankind is suffering and dying amidst the destructive force of religion, race and national borders that is afflicting tragedies upon the world today. Can you gaze upon them without doing anything? We must educate everyone and raise them up as True Parents’ children. That is the only way to go in order to bring about one united world that we, Heaven, and all humankind have longed for. I sincerely ask that you engrave these goals in your hearts, and do your best.

The Providential Significance of True Mother's Leadership

On September 3, 2012, the Unification Church and movement entered a new and critical phase in its development. Long foretold by sociologists of religion and new religion watchers, the seonghwa (ascension) of Reverend Sun Myung Moon, the founder of the Unification movement, was accompanied and followed by anguish, confusion and realignment on various levels.
Even a brief review of the history of major religious movements shows that, in each case, the passing of the founder occasioned a fundamental transformation of the religious movement. Those movements that successfully transformed were able to survive and develop; those that did not have disappeared. The crisis of succession, or what sociologist Max Weber termed the problem of “the routinization of charisma,” would seem to be an inevitable turning point in the history of religious movements. The Unification movement is not an exception; this crisis and transformation were unavoidable.
The Unification movement is now in a very new stage of the providence, beyond what has been charted in previous understandings of the Principle and of Rev. Moon’s teachings. Even if events after his passing had unfolded in a different way, the novelty of the situation and its challenges would have been present nonetheless. Unification sources — especially the Divine Principle books, but also True Father’s speech volumes from earlier days — do not give us a comprehensive account of this time, although they do contain insights that we need. So there is a necessity for members to pray, study, and discuss together, seriously and respectfully.

True Mother’s leadership role is unprecedented in the history of world religions. For each of the main central figures — including Confucius, Buddha, the Greek philosophers, Jesus Christ, and the Prophet Muhammad, no spouse held a leading role in the ongoing development of the religious community. This fact is one of the reasons why True Mother’s leadership is controversial. There has naturally been some unfamiliarity and some opposition. In this situation, that opposition has provided an opportunity as well as a necessity to proclaim True Mother’s leadership clearly in providential terms.
The purpose of this two-part article is to put forward some elements for a case that True Mother’s leadership of the Unification movement at this time is a providential necessity.

The Meaning of Providential Necessity
Care must be taken when referring to “necessity.” The concept here is not one of logical, mathematical or causal necessity in a narrow sense. Events surely could have unfolded differently than they did, and nothing in this presentation intends to deny that fact. According to Unification teaching, the providence of God has always unfolded according to specific patterns of restoration, filtered through the degrees of fulfillment of the human portion of responsibility on the part of innumerable known and unknown contributors.
The whole of Unification theology is built on the premise of the providential necessity of True Parents. On that premise, Unification theology is distinguished from traditional Christian theology. The providential necessity of the coming of True Parents implies that their advent is necessary for salvation, restoration and recreation. Moreover, their status and role in the establishment of Cheon Il Guk, the Nation of Cosmic Peace and Unity, is unique and irreplaceable.
Since 1960, our movement has celebrated True Parents, and placed their picture together at the forefront of our devotional piety and public occasions. There are countless passages in True Father’s sermons which speak of the uniqueness and irreplaceability of True Parents, which must include True Mother as well as True Father. Recognizing that True Mother’s leadership fulfills a providential necessity also means acknowledging that if events had unfolded differently, there would have been a major providentially necessary step missing. More will be said on this point in Part II.

“Only-Begotten”
In expressing the uniqueness and irreplaceability of True Mother, the concept of “only-begotten daughter” (독생녀, 獨生女) that is found in both True Father’s and True Mother’s teachings has become a central issue within the Unification movement. True Mother’s announcement of her status as the “only-begotten daughter” of God is one of the points of debate and division in the movement at present. Although there are precedents for the use of this term in True Father’s speeches, it is also true that the concept is novel in terms of typical expressions of Unification theology and polity. Therefore, it requires a careful process of theological reflection.
The clearest precedent for “only-begotten daughter” is the use of the term “only-begotten son” (독생자, 獨生子) with reference to Jesus and also True Father. For Christianity, the creedal statement referring to Jesus Christ as the “only begotten son” came to mean “begotten before all worlds.” If Unification theology were to develop along the same lines, it would lead us toward the kind of Christological confusions and controversies which have beset Christian theology.
Fortunately, we have the resources of East Asian religious thought to work with as well as the biblical tradition. For example, according to traditional Buddhist sources, at the time Siddhartha Gautama — who would become the Buddha — was born, he took seven steps and spoke the following words: “In heaven and on earth, I alone am the honored one.” (천상천하 유아독존, 天上天下 唯我獨尊). These famous words contain the same word 독, 獨 (“only, solely”) as in “only-begotten.”  These words might sound like a self-centered claim, but it couldn’t be so, because, according to the tradition, the Buddha has no self. This statement could not be the result of individualistic self-consciousness or self-promotion, which would be a problem. For Unification theology also, a perfected person is not always asking “what about me?” Instead, such a perfected person asks what he or she can do for the sake of others.
The famous first words of the Buddha were often quoted by True Father, and the Divine Principle text also quotes this saying in the section on the value of a person who has fulfilled the purpose of creation:

Every person who has completed the purpose of creation is thus a unique existence in the cosmos. We can thus affirm the truth in the Buddha’s saying, “In heaven and on earth, I alone am the honored one.” (Exposition of Divine Principle, p. 164)

We can say, then, that the term 독 獨 in “I alone am the honored one” (唯我獨尊) means that Buddha is the uniquely awakened one, who then sets out to awaken others. Perhaps True Father as only-begotten son (독생자, 獨生子) and True Mother as only-begotten daughter (독생녀, 獨生女) can also be understood similarly as “uniquely born” or “born solely from Heaven.”
Another significant passage in East Asian religious thought that has the term 독獨 is the first chapter of the Confucian “Doctrine of the Mean” (중용, 中庸), containing the concept of shin dok (신독 慎獨) as characterizing the noble or profound person. Literally, shin dok can be translated as “being watchful and careful when alone.”
The contemporary Confucian scholar, Tu Weiming, explains shin dok more fully in terms of “vigilant solitariness,” even when the profound person is surrounded by others. Perhaps this Confucian concept of “vigilant solitariness” can also shed light on the nuances of what it means to be “only begotten.” Though she has had very little time physically alone since the beginning of her mission in 1960, True Mother’s life has been characterized by careful alertness and lonely solitariness.

Preparation for Leadership
As detailed in numerous sermons and public talks, True Father deliberately raised True Mother to fulfill her providential and public role. He speaks particularly of preparing her during the crucial first seven years of their mission together as the True Parents, from 1960 to 1967. True Mother began the indemnity course from the position of servant of servants, just as True Father had done earlier. True Mother followed the course laid out for her, consciously, willingly and with determination.
To restore the original position of Eve was a world-historical task. According to the patterns of the providence of restoration recounted in Unification theology, there is first the restoration of Adam, and then Eve. There is an asymmetry between the positions of Adam and Eve during the course of restoration.
The complex course walked by True Father and True Mother since 1960 is a theme for careful, extensive and thorough study, beyond the scope of this article. However, a key point is that True Father proclaimed True Mother as equal with him. At least since the time of the 30,000 Couples Blessing in 1992, True Father and True Mother have stood in equal positions. This is Father’s teaching.
From the equal status of True Father and True Mother, many other implications follow. It becomes clear that the victory of an only-begotten daughter, along with the victory of an only-begotten son, was necessary for the True Parents, unique in history and in the cosmos, to be fully established.

True Mother as Queen
True Mother is not a successor to True Father in terms of leadership; on the contrary, True Mother’s leadership is the continuation of True Parents’ leadership.
That continuation was edified on Foundation Day, when True Mother appeared in royal robes with crown and scepter. Understanding the providential necessity of True Mother’s leadership requires investigating and upholding not only her status as True Mother but also as True Queen.
True Father clearly explained the importance of True Mother’s position as Queen, in the following words:

This daughter [True Mother], who was 17 years old when she was blessed to me, must become the queen (여왕). She must advance to the position of the Queen of the Heavenly Kingdom (하늘나라의 여왕). Therefore, after our Holy Wedding she had to go through the positions of wife, mother and grandmother, and rise up to the position of queen. When I refer to her as True Mother, it is because she is the mother who represents the heavenly nation. When I say she is my wife, it means that she represents the king and therefore must be attended as if attending the king. (Cham Bu Mo Gyeong, p. 206 [Book 2.4.3.10, 593-216, 2008-06-16])

As is clear from this passage, the title True Queen is not simply an honorific term for the wife of the True King. The concept of True Queen includes within it the qualifications for leadership. In other words, it is providentially important that the Queen (여왕) be able to actually reign. In order to manifest and realize her leadership, it has been providentially necessary for her reign to be put into actual practice.♦

The re-creation process is the providence of restoration, therefore perfected Adam and Eve have to be restored. This process has continued up until now. The purpose of all of human history has been the course of restoration to re-create Adam and Eve. To re-create a perfected Adam, through the years God had to develop a foundation for the individual, the family, the tribe and up through the national and universal levels. Finally, by Abel subjugating Cain and taking the elder son's position, True Parents' position can be restored, and next the kingship position. When Jesus came two thousand years ago in Israel, his position as restored elder son was on the national level. Because he could not successfully accomplish the elder's son position on the worldwide level, at the second coming the Messiah must accomplish this.
True Parents completely subjugated Satan on the worldwide level. There is no Satan left who can invade either the communist or democratic realms. After completely restoring the elder son's position, True Parents' position and the kingship position can be restored. True Parents already proclaimed True Parentship in Korea. Also True Parentship was proclaimed throughout the Korean community in several American regions. Father also proclaimed it at the "Assembly of World's Religions" in San Francisco last year.
After the proclamation of True Parentship, kingship and God's kingdom are established. Therefore, True Parents were able to give the blessed couples the right to be tribal messiahs. The tribal messiah position is Jesus' position. Adam's position, Jesus' position, and True Parents' position, these three create the kingship position on the earth for the first time. Do you understand?
This is the last stage, the last foundation that must be laid. As True Parents, in the perfected Adam position, no Satan can accuse or invade True Parents' family. Through the fall, Adam was subjugated by Eve. As a True Parent, in the perfected Adam position, the Messiah must make complete victory over all Satans on all levels, from the individual to the family, tribal, national and universal levels. Father completed this victorious foundation, therefore Satan's world has completely, dramatically collapsed.
After the perfection of Adam, Eve also has to be perfected. Based on Adam's perfection, Eve can be recreated, and Adam has to restore the Eve position. This is the restoration course, because at the time of the fall Adam was subjugated by Eve. This condition is restored by indemnity at the time of the second coming of the Messiah. Therefore, when Mother in the Eve position is at the same level of perfection as Father, then the whole dispensation is completed. Until now, Mother has completely followed Father; she has been totally united with him. She is Father's shadow. Now, after Father's victory as a perfected Adam, Satan can no longer accuse or invade. Therefore, Father has to raise Mother to Father's level.
Mother, in the Eve position, started this course in Japan. Japan represents the Eve country and Korea represents the Adam country on the national level. Therefore, Japanese and Korean women must be completely united together. Mother, in Eve's position in Japan, became the number one woman, and in Korea, completed this in forty days. During Mother's recent visit to Japan, she spoke to seven thousand representative women from the "Women's Federation for Peace in Asia." Also in Korea, Mother spoke to fifteen thousand representative women. Within the forty days, she gave many speeches in different levels in each province. The final event took place on November 20. On the foundation of this victory, Mother completely fulfilled her mission. In a period of twenty days, the Korean national historical level of the "Women's Federation for Peace in Asia" was initiated. Then, a final rally in was held in Seoul. Such an historical event was never held in Korea before.
The woman's position is different in Korea and Japan. In Japan, it is like Leah's, in Korea, it is like Rachel's. These two women have to be completely unified. Historically, Japanese and Korean women have been bitter enemies. Through Mother, in the campaign in Korea they became completely harmoniously united. Centering on True Mother, Father asked six thousand Japanese women's representatives to come to Korea by the end of this year to receive education. Six thousand Korean women will also participate, making a total of twelve thousand women as a symbol of Jesus' twelve disciples.
The number twelve represents all humanity. Those women are completely united with Mother, and because of this condition of unity, Satan can no longer claim women. The Western world represents the archangel. That is why there is so much homosexuality in the West. Japanese sisters are married to brothers from all over the world. This is to restore the archangel position. Japanese sisters will be married to men from one hundred and sixty nations. By April of next year, young men and women representing one hundred and sixty nations will be married. Those one hundred and sixty nations, from all six continents, will be represented in the "Woman's Federation for Peace" and must be completely united with True Mother.
By next April, in our Olympic Stadium in Seoul, Father will expand the foundation of the "Women's Federation for Peace" to a worldwide level, to be organized on six continents. During a conference and a rally Father will proclaim the "Woman's Federation for Peace" to the world. All the world's women will belong to Father, as the representative of Adam, through Mother. All men are in the archangel position. By restoring all those women into True Parents' family, men, in the children's position to those women, will be restored through them. When Adam and Eve fell, they were taken by Satan's side. At this time Father, the perfected Adam, completely restores Eve by going the reverse direction. Brothers and sisters embrace and follow Father, going back to God: all men in the archangel position follow Eve. This is the universal turning point. This is Mother's Age, until Father is age eighty. After age eighty, we will be entering the original ideal world.
In America, the women are already queens. American families are separated; children go their own way. They don't know where they are going. If all women unite with True Mother, then all the other children will follow their mothers. The fathers and husbands, who are in the archangel position, will follow True Father.
Father and Mother will ask all the blessed women to be mobilized for three years to their home towns as tribal messiahs to restore all their relatives. The women, as tribal messiahs, will restore their children, and then all the husbands will have to follow.
Satan already knew this and that is why he has divided families. In the last days the family has to become one centered on God. The biblical revelation prophesies that in the last days mothers, fathers, and children will be one another's enemies. How can they be unified into one centered upon God? This is God's will, and this is what Father is doing. So man, as the husband, is in the archangel position for three years. The husband and wife need to be separated for three years. So when Father calls all blessed wives to come to Korea and Japan you will be immediately mobilized.
This is the Age of Mother. Within three years, Satan has to be completely separated from us. The number three is always a problem. When the Israelites left Egypt they had three days to separate from Satan. Jesus had a three-day separation period after the crucifixion. When Father mobilizes the blessed wives, the husbands should not complain. They have to take care of the children and support their wives. This is Principle viewpoint, not Father's words.
Until now in fallen history, the man has always been the one in power struggles, the one to wage war and engage in evil activities. Women have to resolve all the problems through women's power. Women do not like to wage war. God does not have a war concept.
This is the final transition period. The whole spiritual world will support Mother's efforts to successfully make this foundation. All women's problems of the past and present--prostitution, free sex, and so on--have to be completely resolved centering on God, True Mother, and women's power.
After the unification of North and South Korea, a new family tree will be registered. From that time on, you will become a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven, and everyone who travels to Korea will have to speak Korean, the mother tongue. This is True Parents' language. In the ideal world there is one language and one culture. All women will follow True Father and True Mother. Their husbands will have to follow them. After the registration of the new family we will be in the adopted children's position, as step-children centering on True Parents. Then, new life begins: new couples, as husband and wife. How complicated it is to follow the formula course. But this is the Principle, so it is absolutely true.
All men and women should think of nothing else but God as their vertical Parents and True Parents as their horizontal parents centering on true love. Adam and Eve's responsibility, which they failed to fulfill, was to united absolutely with the concept of God as the vertical Parents and True Parents as horizontal parents, centering on true love. There is no concept outside of these three; through them begins a new culture and a new language. A particular nationality's thinking, such as just Western or just Oriental, should not exist. Any other concepts are Satan's. Is it easy? Satan's blood lineage has been on the earth for thousands of years.
You have to unite with Mother completely. As elder and younger brothers, there should not be fighting between Korean and Japanese or Oriental and Western. They have been enemies, but now in total unity they will be completely embraced by Mother. They should love and support each other in God's true love. Mother will embrace both children and bring them to Father. Through the four-position foundation we have to return to that ideal. Humanity will return to God, and God will bless them.
The reign of Kim Il Sung has to end. Father has to help him surrender of his own desire. Kim Il Sung is the false Adam on Satan's side, the false Christ. Father represents God's side. True Father cannot fight with evil. So the false Adam, Kim Il Sung has to surrender of his own free will. So when Father meets with him, he will offer him the idea of how to do it and give the direction. If he doesn't agree, he is finished.
You did not know what was going on in the world, and how God's providence is developing. This is the transition time of the destiny of the universe. If Father did not understand this, there would be no hope for the world. How difficult the course of restoration is! Do you need Father? Do you need Mother too? Father speaks to you as the representatives of the whole Western world, so you must unite with these words. I am now returning to the Orient.
Hawaii is midway between East and West. Hawaii has so much Japanese influence (representing women). America, in the archangel position, has to follow Hawaii, representing women, and united with Asia. That is the purpose of revival. No matter how much America tries to exert control or influence, it still has to follow. As the archangel nation your lifestyle has to go down below the Korean and Japanese lifestyles, below the Adam and Eve nations' level. This is the Principle viewpoint. America is declining. She must quickly unite with Japan and Korea. Brothers who are blessed to Oriental women are very fortunate.
When you are blessed to Japanese women, do you regret it? Is it difficult? It is not so easy to unite completely with the opposite side.
To save the world, Father made international marriage. By next April, Japanese women will be blessed to brothers throughout the world. Those couples will come to Korea and the women will march to North Korea. If six hundred thousand women march into North Korea what will Kim Il Sung do? Unification women should work harder than communist women. If Father calls you women, would you like to come? Do you really want to go, or just because you are being asked? You must have that kind of attitude.
This is the final period, the final stage. God prepared everything. By the spiritual world's power, Kim Il Sung can be changed. He can be taken to the spirit world even tonight.
This is Mother's Age. Father is preparing to put Mother in Father's place. Women have been sad throughout history.
